Brahmi, a perennial creeping plant (Bacopa Monnieri) has been in use as a nerve tonic for rejuvenating mental health and for enhancing memory. Bacopa is considered the main rejuvenating herb for nerve and brain cells and, therefore, has played a very important role in Ayurvedic therapies for the treatment of cognitive disorders of aging. Countless studies have shown Brahmi helps improve protein activity and protein synthesis, especially in brain cells, which can increase intelligence, longevity and memory and decrease senility and aging.

Shankhapushpi (Convolvulus Pluricaulis)is used as a brain tonic.

The plain truth is that the body and mind need dietary fat, in reasonable quantities, to function optimally. omega-3 fatty acids, have many beneficial effects, particularly with respect to cognition and memory; they are also considered to be heart-healthy.

The research has been carried out on two groups of young children. In the first group children aged 6-12 years were given a combination of omega 3 fish oil and omega 6 evening primrose oil. After 3 months underperforming children showed a significant improvement in behavior, including attention levels, hyperactivity and short-term memory. Over a six month period there were improvements, sometimes dramatic, in reading skills. The second group of 8-9 year olds already had a reading age 9 months above average. After 3 months they were 18 months above average.
